During the Civil War, Hood's Texas Brigade of the Confederate Army organized on October 22, 1861, in Richmond, Virginia, under the command of Brig. Gen. Louis T. Wigfall with the First, Fourth, and Fifth Texas Infantry Regiments. Several other regiments and companies were attached to the Brigade over the next year, with only the Third Arkansas Infantry staying until the end of the war. Col.
